The Altar Guild prepares the church for all services as directed by the clergy. Duties include flower arranging, preparing and cleansing the communion sets, laundering and ironing the linens, polishing brass and silver, laying out and care of vestments, filling candles and other tasks that may be needed for special services.
Members serve two two-week duty periods each quarter. All members help with decorating the church for Christmas and Easter. Meetings are held the second Sunday every other month. New members are trained under the direction of the Training Chairperson.
Service on the Guild provides the privilege of serving God in his sacristy and sanctuary. The personal satisfaction of this privilege cannot be described or measured.
The St. Matthew's Book club meets five Wednesday evenings a year to discuss books chosen by the group. Selections include recent and classic fiction and nonfiction.

The group is open to parishioners, Day School family members, and guests interested in books and conversation.
Our next meeting will be on Wednesday, November 13, at 7:00 pm. We will discuss Some Assembly Required by Anne Lamott, who will be speaking at St. Matthew's on Tuesday evening, November 26.
Young Adult Community
YAC (for grades 10-12) fosters young adults' independence by recognizing their growing skills and leadership abilities. We continue to build community, have fun, and learn about our God-given gifts while giving more freedom for the youth to select topics and activities. This mentor-based program focuses on discerning gifts for ministry within the church and larger community. A final rite of passage will send them out to be Christians in the world. We also work towards a summer mission trip. YAC meets each Sunday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. in the Krebs Room, and other times determined by the group.
