All Are Welcome!

In the fall of 2015, the Vestry of St. Matthew’s led the congregation through an intentional time of education and discernment around the inclusion of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender people.

The educational component included LGBT history, LGBT history in the Episcopal Church, Bible and theology, as well as a panel of LGBT people of faith reflecting on their experiences of welcome and (un)welcome in various churches/synagogues.

On January 19, 2016 the Vestry unanimously adopted the following statement of welcome that reflects the heart and hope of St. Matthew’s community:

The Episcopal Church of St. Matthew is a community called by Christ to live God’s love, share the Gospel, and grow spiritually.  All of God’s children are welcome here, regardless of sexual orientation, gender identity and expression, income, race, or any other perceived difference.
