Our youth Confirmation class at St. Matthews will gather once a month from September 2026 through September 2027. Confirmation serves as the sacramental rite in which confirmands “express a mature commitment to Christ, and receive strength from the Holy Spirit through prayer and the laying on of hands by a bishop” (BCP, p. 860). Confirmation understood today serves as a time to prepare people to live into the fullness of their faith, to walk with others in Jesus’ way of love, and remain true to the baptismal promises it holds, with God’s help.
The curriculum offers an introduction to the history, tradition, belief, and faith practices of the Episcopal Church. Weaving together scripture, tradition, reason, and authentic relationship, the process invites students to experience many aspects of the church – challenging each confirmand to take courage, face forward, and see what is right in is world that God loves, so to be what is right in it. The confirmation program is open for youth, from middle school and upwards, who wish to explore their desire to be confirmed in the Episcopal Church.
