League for Service
The League for Service offers all women of the parish opportunities for service, fellowship and friendship. To become an active League member, explore one of our working sections: Christian Social Relations or St. Catherine’s; both meet regularly for social events and charitable projects.
Every year the League is able to make significant donations to Episcopal Church charities and to local and national nonprofits, thanks to income generated by our Thrift Shop, operated entirely by parish volunteers.
St. Catherines’s Section
The purpose of this section is to serve the Episcopal Church of St. Matthew through a program of worship, study, service, gifts and fellowship. We currently meet on the fourth Tuesday of most months of the year at 7:00 pm.
We take responsibility for the first and second Sunday coffee hours of the month, the November All-Parish Thanksgiving Dinner and other League for Service and parish events when we are called upon to serve. In addition to supporting philanthropic organizations that focus on women and children, we enjoy a yearly retreat, lively book discussions, an occasional outing, guest speakers, a yearly cocktail party with our significant others and a Christmas potluck dinner.
Christian Social Relations
Christian Social Relations (“CSR”), a section of The League for Service, consists of women communicants of the parish who meet monthly from September through May on the third Thursday of the month at noon at St. Charles House or in a member’s home.
As an ongoing part of our work at the church, members set up, oversee, and clean up for Coffee Hours on the third Sunday of each month; provide decorations and set up for the traditional All-Parish Thanksgiving Dinner in November; and help elsewhere when needed. Care and concern for each other are our major focus, as we nurture one another in our everyday lives. Each year our community outreach includes donations to organizations that focus on youth and women in the diocese and in the local community.
Women’s Spirituality Group
This is a small group opportunity to reflect on scripture, God’s presence in our lives and the challenges of discipleship, and engage in prayer. The group meets every Monday morning at 9:15 am at the Charles House. Women of all ages are invited to join.
